Queensland University of Technology

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) aims to create the next generation of leaders in industry, research and society and has over 49,000 students, and over 12,000 staff members.

QUT operates four Professorial Nursing Units at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in the areas of cancer nursing, intensive care, renal nursing and neuroscience with several appointments and higher degree research students.

The university’s Kelvin Grove campus is located on Herston Road, only two kilometres from the Herston Health Precinct.

QUT’s health research strengths and facilities include:

  • The Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) delivers research outcomes across prevention, intervention and translation with a particular emphasis on health determinants and health systems, injury prevention and trauma management, and chronic disease and ageing.
  • The Medical Engineering Research Facility (MERF) at Metro North’s The Prince Charles Hospital offers research, validation, translation and training to ensure widespread adoption of new medical devices and surgical techniques, with specialties in orthopaedic and artificial organ research.
  • QUT’s research strengths in health sciences, automation, big data, mathematics and technology complement QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute’s biomedical science expertise to support translational research with a focus on infectious diseases, neuroscience and neuroimaging.
  • Research within the Facility of Health in workforce capability building and expanding scope of practice in disciplines such as optometry, pharmacy, psychology, social work, podiatry, medical radiation science, nutrition and dietetics and exercise physiology.
  • The future Herston Biofabrication Institute will be located at Herston Health Precinct.
  • The ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre in Additive Biomanufacturing (ABM) located at QUT Kelvin Grove brings together leading researchers, industry partners and clinicians to develop advanced bioprinters, bioinks and 3D printed clinical tools.
  • The Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI) is a partnership between QUT, UQ, RBWH and the Queensland Department of Health. AusHSI aims to integrate research findings into policy and practice resulting in greater efficiencies and enhanced patient outcomes.
